Trade Skills

The Trade Skills programming at Cherokee Scout Reservation provides fun, hands-on learning. The Advanced Welding course offers extended skill development to Scouts who have already completed the Welding merit badge.

Already have the Welding merit badge, but want to further your welding skills and experience? Our Advanced Welding program is the place for you. Advanced Welding allows Scouts to apply and extend the skills learned in the Welding merit badge.

Automotive Maintenance Merit Badge

Those who service automobiles must understand each principle, and how these principles interact to provide smooth, efficient performance. Owners of cars also benefit by understanding how their vehicles operate. This enables them to understand why certain periodic maintenance is required to keep their vehicles in tip-top shape.

Electricity Merit Badge

Electricity is a powerful and fascinating force of nature. As early as 600 BC, observers of the physical world suspected that electricity existed but did not have a name for it. In fact, real progress in unraveling the mystery of electricity has come only within the last 250 years.

  • The Electricity merit badge was one of the original 57 merit badges issued by the Boy Scouts of America in 1911. It replaced the 1910 Electrician "Badge of Merit".

Requirements 2 and 9 will not be completed at camp. We will prepare Scout to conduct electrical home safety inspection (requirement 2) and to interpret the family power bill (requirement 9) upon returning home.

Farm Mechanics Merit Badge

From the mattock and hoe to the horse and mule, the cotton gin and reaper, the tractor and air seeder—this is the story of farm equipment. Today, most farms are mechanized and farmers can do most of their own maintenance work and make the adjustments needed on their many intricate farm implements.

Home Repairs Merit Badge

Successfully completing this badge's requirements can lead to a lifetime of personal and financial rewards: Doing basic home repairs provides a sense of personal pride in one's achievements and increased self-confidence. Plumbing, including pipe fitting, is an important and well-paid occupation. The industry is quite broad. It covers installations and repairs in homes, commercial properties, and factories. Plumbing pipelines are used for water supply, waste drainage, natural-gas heating, and many other purposes.

Welding Merit Badge

This merit badge is a good fit with preparing Scouts for their future and offers Scouts a fun way to explore skills that can grow into a hobby or career. The Welding merit badge will enable Scouts to learn hands-on how to join metals using welding techniques. The skills they learn may even be helpful for making or repairing items for their troop.

Long trousers mandatory. Closed-toed leather shoes required, but boots desired. Scouts may also want a long-sleeve, button down shirt. All of these items will get dirty. Scouts may want to bring two pairs of trousers and two longsleeve shirts.
